Spending time away from a loved one with a disability is not easy, but it is possible to do so safely and with peace of mind.
Community-based respite provides overnight respite to people with developmental disabilities so that their families can be better supported in their care giving. Professional staff are trained in positive behavioral supports and behavior management strategies and are certified in medication administration. A screening and enrollment process is required to access the services below.
OPTIONS FOR RESPITE SERVICES INCLUDE:
Residential and Emergency Respite
Residential respite provides short-term care on a planned or emergency basis to families caring for an adult who is OPWDD eligible. Emergency respite can accommodate people with challenging behaviors and/or medical needs and is fully accessible.
Summer Camp: Camp Loyaltown provides a summer sleep-away camp experience for children (ages 4 to 18) and adults (age 18 and over) who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability. There are several sessions to choose from and scholarships are available based on financial need.
Weekend Respite: From September to May, respite services are available at Camp Loyaltown for adults (18 and over) who have attended Camp Loyaltown in the past three years.
